Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed Monday that wide receiver Davante Adams ruptured his hamstring during Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals and will be sidelined for six to ten weeks, a devastating blow for a team already reeling from a rough start to the season. The injury was one of several bad updates McVay delivered to reporters at the team's facility in Woodland Hills, California, a day after the Rams fell to 2-4.

How Adams got hurt

Adams was in obvious discomfort late in Sunday's game. Heading into the end zone while running a route, Adams began to hobble and headed off the field for treatment, and he did not return to action. The receiver sustained a non-contact injury, and he was alone in the end zone before hobbling and holding his left knee, having initially looked back after pulling up before limping to the sideline for evaluation by the medical staff.

Adams suffered the injury with 1:18 left in the fourth quarter of Week 6. He came up limping on a non-contact injury on Sunday, moments before the Rams scored a go-ahead touchdown in the final minute of an 18-16 loss. Despite the late score, Los Angeles still fell to the Cardinals, extending a rough stretch for a roster that opened the year as a Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl favorite.

A six-to-ten week timeline

McVay did not mince words about the severity of the injury. Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters that Adams ruptured his hamstring and will be out six to 10 weeks with the injury. The Los Angeles Rams will place receiver Davante Adams on injured reserve due to the ruptured hamstring he suffered at the end of Week 6's loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

What the timeline means for his return

Going off the 6-to-10-week timeline, Adams could return as early as Week 12 when the Rams face his original team, the Green Bay Packers, with the longer estimate meaning he won't return until a Week 16 date against the Seattle Seahawks. While it could've been worse, the Rams can take solace that it won't be a season-ending injury for the 33-year-old, and if the Rams string together wins and secure a playoff spot, Adams should be back in time for that potential run.

Adams' season so far

Before the injury, Adams had been one of the few bright spots in a disappointing year. In six games, Adams caught 30 passes for 480 yards and four touchdowns, including over 300 yards and two touchdowns in the two games that Puka Nacua missed due to a core injury. A native of Redwood City, California, Adams is in his 13th NFL season out of Fresno State and his second with the Rams, and he also missed three games in 2025 with a hamstring injury.

More bad news on defense

Adams' injury was not the only setback McVay announced. McVay said nose tackle Poona Ford will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured triceps and defensive tackle Kobie Turner will miss a handful of weeks with a groin injury, with the Rams likely putting Turner on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least four games.

Ford is another big loss for the Rams' defense, as he has played a large role in stopping the run as the starting nose tackle over the last two seasons and was arguably one of the most important players on the Rams' defense in 2025. Turner's absence is also notable given his workload. The Rams took a significant hit to their defensive line with Monday's news, as Turner played a career-low 23 snaps, and the injury explains why, with Turner injuring his groin and expected to go on injured reserve but possibly returning later this season.

What's next for the Rams

The cascade of injuries comes at a difficult moment for a team that entered the year with championship aspirations. An overwhelming preseason Super Bowl favourite, the Rams (2-4) sit in last place in the NFC West. The full list of injury updates from McVay's Monday press conference also included kicker Blake Grupe, out for the season with a torn ACL, and star pass rusher Myles Garrett, who won't return to practice this week.

With Adams sidelined, Los Angeles will need other receivers to step up. The Rams will have to turn to other options now, which could include an increased role for Tutu Atwell, but also Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield, and sixth-round rookie C.J. Daniels, as L.A. has largely kept their passing offense contained to Puka, Adams, and Tyler Higbee lately.

Los Angeles will try to begin stabilizing things on the road. The Rams visit the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7 as they look to snap their recent skid and keep their playoff hopes alive within a crowded NFL landscape.
